4 Stars Bayou Classic 16 qt a great buy
This item was very reasonably priced, delivered on time and intact (apparently others have had delivery issues) and performed as expected. Having said that, let me add it isn’t designed to be pretty, it’s for cooking. The fit, form and function are exactly what is needed for producing great flavored bulk cooking. This isn’t one of those beautiful Le Creuset pots, and isn’t supposed to be. It’s one quarter (or less) the price, and is designed to be buried in embers, without damage to the finish.

I gave it a 4 star rating because I had to “season” it prior to use. If seasoned from the factory, it would definitely rate 5 stars.

DO NOT TRY TO USE IT WITHOUT DOING MULTIPLE SEASONINGS! It will rust quite easily.

This 16 quart pot will make enough Osso Bucco for a platoon!

1 Star Flimsy cast iron?
Arrived broken, shipped in the original box with no packing whatsoever. The lid is broken, the dutch oven itself is smashed in on one side, and now I have to pack it up and ship it back (will the post office even accept something this heavy?) Anyway, I DO NOT RECOMMEND! It’s more trouble than it’s worth and not sturdy enough.

5 Stars Best Dutch oven for price
Heavy casted. Basket included is nice. Best c.i. oven for price I’ve found.

4 Stars Sublime Cooking Ahead
We have been looking for a Dutch Oven this size for about 5 months. We really liked the Bayou Classic because the lid is actually functional. The reason we have not purchased before is the shipping was almost as much as the oven. Super Saver Shipping saved the day. Oven is of good quality, not quite like they used to make them in Grandma’s day. We have been pleased so far.

2 Stars Doesn’t hold up to wind
I purchased this stove for my father-in-law. It looked/sounded like the perfect stove for tail-gating. However, we used it this afternoon and the burners kept going out everytime the wind increased outside. This would be a great stove if the conditions outside were always perfect.

5 Stars Wonderful
Set it up outside for the slobs in your life who destroy yor kitchen stove you won’t be sorry Im not Love this Product

5 Stars Wish I had known about this earlier
I just love this product! Robust. Big burners. Underlined with quality with a sensible design for outdoors: I like the way they have kept the flame protected from wind. This really blows away those fancy stainless steel burners I had brought. I like thme so much that I wanted to but another (for some big party maybe) but my wife’s better sense prevailed.

I liked CampChefs customer service too, who corrected a wrong choice I was making. I was choosing a very big (75,000BTU) burner option which they said is not suitable for daily cooking.

Guess where ours curry’s and stir fry cooks when it is not raining!

5 Stars Perfect for car camping, tailgating, or just grilling outside.
I’ve really enjoyed using this product. The price for the stove is not all inclusive for maximum enjoyment. In addition to the stove, you’ll also need to purchase a propane tank. I’d also recommend the cast-iron griddle/grill plates designed to fit on the stove. You probably only need one, but if you want two they’ll cost you about $20 a piece.

You can probably use standard cookware as you would on an oven range, but I’ve only used cast-iron cookware on the stove. If you have more expensive cookware, you may want to consider investing in a diffuser plate as the stove flame can be very hot! I haven’t done so yet, but you also may want to consider installing the igniter which I believe costs $5-10 per burner. I also purchased the Camp Chef bag for transporting the stove. Even while in the bag, the stove is very heavy and not fun to carry around. Like I said in the title, this is a perfect stove to take camping if you’re in a car and don’t have to carry it far. For its power, it stores very well. Because it stores in a compact area (roughly 36×18x8) set-up is slightly more complicated than comparable stoves but remains fairly simple. You just slide the four legs into the bottom of the stove, snap the wind-shield in place, and plug in the propane tank. I’ve seen other stoves that have legs which simply fold up or down. All-in-all, this is a great product!

5 Stars Perfect camp grill
I’ll occassionally go up to the mountains to go camping and get away from it all. Whenever I go, I use this stove. It’s very durable and useful. There’s nothing better than having a big juicy steak while camping. I couldn’t do a camping trip without it.

Bayou Classic SP50 Tall High Pressure Outdoor Gas Cooker

May 12, 2009 by camping Guide · Leave a Comment

Bayou Classic SP50 Tall High Pressure Outdoor Gas Cooker

This single-burner outdoor cooker loads into the truck to boil up hearty soup at a fall tailgate party or stovetop macaroni at a campsite. However, it can also be parked permanently in the backyard to whip up sauces for grilled chicken or other barbecue accompaniments. Equipped with a 14-inch-diameter gas burner, this outdoor stove can accommodate up to a 60-quart stockpot and so is versatile enough to melt butter one afternoon and deep-fry a turkey the next. The gas-powered burner delivers 55,000 BTUs, which is plenty strong for most meals, and has a 360-degree windscreen to keep the flame from going out on cooler days. The stove’s heavy-duty welded steel frame is hefty enough to support an oversized pot or cast iron skillet and stands 21 inches tall, which is a fairly comfortable height for most people. The stove comes with a regulator kit, valve assembly kit, and a 30-inch pressure hose, plus full instructions on how to safely connect between the LP gas cylinder and the cooker. A whole host of other safety precautions and detailed instructions on proper placement are also outlined in the manual to ensure an enjoyable outdoor cooking experience. This cooker is covered by a 1-year warranty. –Cristina Vaamonde

4 Stars Outside canning
Needed a method for outdoor canning as I’ve had my smooth top range break while canning on it. I have only used the Bayou Classic for two tomato hot water bath canning sessions outside, but it has worked well both times. Plan on using it for pressure canning my green beans within next few days.

5 Stars great product
the picture and specifics such as the height and color was very useful, it came fully assemsbled and ready for use.

5 Stars This is a nice burner.
Nice burner for the price you pay. Plus you get free shipping from Amazon. It doesn’t get any better. The product seems to be very durable. Don’t listen to others say that the welds are cheap. I used to weld, and these are nice welds on the legs and surface.

1 Star Bad Design or Did I Just Get a Lemon?
I’ve owned other turkey fryers, and just received this one from Amazon. (Superb shipping and order handling, as always!) Two big problems with this unit — bad design, or did I just get a lemon?

1. The knob you turn to increase and decrease the gas is BACKWARDS! Nope, I’m not losing my marbles — on this one you turn the knob clockwise to INCREASE the amount of gas (and the height of the flame!) This is the exact opposite of any other knob you’ve ever used (such as a sink or spigot or other propane appliance). Who cares? Well, if you have a grease fire and rush to turn the fire off, you’re probably going to give that knob a big yank in the wrong direction (based on every other knob you’ve ever used), thereby making the flame BIGGER, not smaller.

2. These fryers usually come with a simple air control valve — it lets you adjust how much air mixes with the gas. This helps you make the flame a nice blue color (good) instead of mostly yellow (bad). On other units I’ve owned this is basic and easy to use. On this model the valve is very flimsy, and you seem to have a choice of setting the knob from Wide Open to Wide Open! (It never really closes much!) I was unable to set the flame to the right consistency, which is necessary for proper cooking.

I called the manufacturer’s toll-free number to get help with both of these items and they didn’t seem all that interested — all they could recommend is that I return it to Amazon (and that’s exactly what I’m doing!)

I DO recommend buying a turkey fryer — it’s a lot of fun if the usual safety steps are followed — but I do NOT recommend that you buy this one!

5 Stars Meets expectations
I bought this gas cooker for those times when I need to use large pots or cook smelly fried foods. It is everything I was hoping for. The construction is tough and durable, and it will probably outlast me! The shipping was fast and free, it arrived in about 4 days only.

5 Stars Good Burner. Fluctuating Amazon price?
This is a good burner. Big surface to handle large pots. Nice and low so it is easy to lift full pots onto. It is too low to gravity feed into a 5 gallon carboy. What is with the crazy Amazon pricing. In 6 months I have seen this thing go back and forth between $40 & $60. I ordered mine through a local Ace for $50, used a $10 off coupon and paid no shipping.

4 Stars Great for home brewing!
This is a good stove, and holds a big 7 gallon pot easily. Provides for a rapid boil. Much better than my kitchen stove for big boiling jobs.

5 Stars Awesome for Crawfish!!!
This is an amazing burner……..perfect for those Texas Crawfish Boils!! Very easy to put together………

5 Stars Bayou Classic SQ14 Single Burner Outdoor Patio Stove
This is an excellent burner. I use mine for making my HomeBrew and it works great.

5 Stars Great Low Cost Burner
I got this for brewing, and it works great it can bring my 5 gallons of wort to a boil pretty quickly and has enough control to hit my hot liquor temps pretty nicely. I also love how stable it is I have no worries about setting a pot down slightly off center and having it tip over. Overall a great buy.

5 Stars Great for homebrewing
I knew before I bought it that this unit would burn off the black paint upon the 1st couple of uses. In fact plan on doing a couple of test burns and getting rid of the black paint on top and also that bad smell before you use this for homebrewing. Once that paint is off on top then no problems - just brew away! I was able to bring 10 gallons of water up from 40 degrees to boiling in just over 40 minutes outdoors in a 27 degree air temperature. I’ve used this now for my first two batches and have had no problems with it. The noise level isn’t bad at all but it is noticeable is you crank it up full. I found that once you get the water to a boil you can reduce the flame and maintain the boil with it just 1/2 way open.

4 Stars Good for my purposes
It was good, the flow control is excellent on the regulator, and had no problems except the occasional puff of flame, however that was brought on with the gusty days I’ve used this on. One more thing, that someone else brought up. The paint on the inner prongs tends to burn off and give a subtle odor in the air. But after the first 30 minutes of use it burnt away and the smell was no long prevalent.

5 Stars Still working great, POWER!
One thing for sure, never short on power…only had one blow-out. But gotta keep the power down so I don’t get boil overs for the home brew sessions. Great price, great product.

4 Stars A good product
I bought this for cooking outside and it serves the purpose well. The paint flakes out but won’t affect the performance.

2 Stars Why the huge price increase?
Last week this burner was $39.99. I put it in my cart to buy later. The next day the price jumped to $59. WTF???
